Drop off your old coat and share some hope

In the space of 48 hours enough coats have been donated to a local charity to warm the backs of 15000 people.

A charity called Wrap Up London has just had their 6th annual Coat collection campaign, which ran from the 7th till the 9h of November.

The charity teamed up with Transport for London in the aim to collect as many unwanted coats as possible, to try and insure that less people in need are destined to freeze this winter.

The charity brought hundreds of volunteers together, who were eager to give a small portion of their time, which they devoted to collecting and delivering coats.

Those who couldn’t physically give a hand this November, made sure to keep Wrap up London’s hashtag noticeable all over Twitter.

“Got an old coat? Don’t forget #WrapUpLondon is collecting at stations today. by #GemmaAnneStyles

Luke Frith from Southwark said, “ If social media didn’t exist I don’t think that campaigns like wrap up London would receive the exposure they required to make a difference”

The donated coats are being distributed to refugees and children in poverty, as well as the elderly and the homeless.

Although the campaign was operating at 11 London underground stations, Commuters passing by London Bridge have made a vast majority of the donations.

A young man from Germany, who goes by the name Timur, donated his “beloved puffer jacket” to Wrap Up Londons’ donation box via London Bridge station this November.

Timur said “London Bridge is a very busy station so it draws in attention, so any good charity that is presented here will come with great support”

If you were too late to donate to wrap up London this year you can hope to hand over a coat of your own next November.

Last year the Wrap Up London gathered 14,000 coats, however this year Wrap up London broke their own record by an extra 1000 coats.
