Commuters were faced with severe delays on Southern rail between Clapham Junction and Victoria following an accident at Battersea Park, where a lorry crashed into a bridge early this morning.

Southern rail confirmed this via Twitter at about 8am, stating that they were carrying out safety checks following the accident and that service is to be heavily delayed until at least 10am. Southern rail also announced that tickets were being accepted on the Underground, Thameslink, and Gatwick Express until 11am.

Service resumed as normal at about 12pm, but left commuters angered and frustrated by what appears to be a common occurence.

@JamieFerguson68 tweeted his dissatisfaction with the service, writing “ @SouthernRailUK Major delays at Clapham means I’m on my 61st late train of 2016!”

If you were delayed by 30 minutes or more, you can claim delay repay here: http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/customer-services/delay-repay/.
