More officers have been sent onto the streets of Peckham in response to reports of anti-social behaviour, police have confirmed.

Two sergeants and 12 constables will be allocated to street patrols.

Southwark Council confirmed it will also work closely with police to ensure safer streets and bring down crime rates.

Leader of Southwark Council Sarah King said, “We know how important feeling safe is to our residents and local businesses. This announcement means more officers on our streets, more visible patrols and more targeted action on the issues that most affect our communities”.

Despite Southwark Council’s commitment to focussing on these issues, residents continue to voice concern.

The Southwark operation is part of a London-wide initiative to strengthen neighbourhood policing and help residents feel safer in their boroughs. The officers will focus on preventing crime and targeting repeat offenders.
