The Breakfast Club

The first thing you notice when you walk into the Breakfast Club is that it is busy, there is absolutely no shortage of people waiting to be seated. The second thing you notice when you walk into the Breakfast Club is the decor that makes you feel like you have just stepped into an 80s cult film, it’s a mixture of weird and wonderful that works well. Finally, you notice the overwhelming smell of pancakes and maple syrup that hits you when you walk in.

The Breakfast Club is, to put it in their own words, locally world famous and its obvious why. The  menu is made up entirely of breakfast and brunch foods but there is diversity, you are spoilt for choice and when you see what the people sat around you are eating you just have no idea what to choose. From pancakes to burgers, from poached eggs to french toast, they have everything you could possibly want for an all day brunch. For London Bridge, the prices are not extortionate. I paid £11.50 for pancakes and an iced coffee, whilst the person I was there with paid £12 for poached eggs, avocado and toast and a green smoothie. It’s definitely worth the price.

IMG_20150319_145618The pancakes I had tasted wonderful. I wouldn’t recommend the pancakes with berries unless you have a sweet tooth. You can feel yourself becoming diabetic when you eat this. It’s laden with maple syrup, vanilla cream and berries. There is so much sugar in this one meal that it’s intense to eat. Although, it’s certainly a meal you will not forget in a hurry. They were fluffy but dense which is the perfect American style pancake. The vanilla cream and maple syrup is a match made in heaven and when you throw in the berries, it makes for a heavenly food experience.

If you imagine every 80s film you have ever seen and then throw all of the gaudy decor together, the end result is The Breakfast Club restaurant. The booths are lined with pineapple shaped lamps that provide a fun ambience and a change from the standard lighting found in a restaurant. There is a fake horses head mounted on the wall and if you look closely you might notice a lampshade made up of fried eggs by the door. Its like being transported to a completely different time just without the bad fashion choices usually associated with the 80s.

The service is good, not perfect but does anywhere really have perfect service? Everybody that works there is friendly, they seem genuinely happy to be working there and serving you. And so what if they all look like they stepped out of a Tumblr blog? It works well for the restaurant and gives it some charm.

The Breakfast Club is definitely somewhere you should visit if you’re in the London Bridge area. It’s only down the road from the station and you’re guaranteed to enjoy the mouth-watering food that they serve.
