As the world marked the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks on Israel, which triggered the war on Gaza, SouthLondonLines took to the streets of Lewisham to ask what people thought of Donald Trump’s peace plan.
Lorcan Joseph Gould, 19, a Goldsmiths University Fine Art student from Suffolk, said, “Trump is talking bullshit”. He added that he did not think “it would go on for that long, it’s awful and horrific especially seeing all the videos online.”
Susain Wesson, 64, a teacher, said, “I thought it would be over quicker.” She added that she felt “sympathy “for both sides” but was sceptical about Trump’s initiative. He is really “unpredictable”, she said,” and “and honestly doesn’t listen”.
Tyson D, 39, a security guard, said that while this particular bout of fighting has gone on two years, the conflict has been underway “for decades”. Describing it as “a massacre”, he added that he had little confidence in Trump’s peace plan as he keeps “feeding nonsense” to the world.
