Donald Trump has spoken poorly of Sadiq Khan, calling him a “terrible, terrible mayor” but what does much of London think? SouthLondonLines took to the streets of New Cross to find out.

Anna Smith, 53, a hairdresser, said, “I think he’s really really trying to do good things” but added that he seemed to rush into them “a little bit too fast before he actually gets the opinion of the populace.”

She offered floating bus stops as an example, predicting the design, which places a cycle lane between bus stop and pavement for greater cyclist safety, would be a problem for anyone who isn’t “a normal functioning adult.”  As a sufferer from myalgic encephalomyelitis, she said this sort of bus stop is causing an issue for people like her.

Delivery driver Sam Fletcher, 23, said that as the person “responsible” for the Ultra Low Emission Zone, he was “already not a fan” of Khan’s. He added that it was definitely affecting “people who drive and deliver in London” for small businesses.

Owen Furnish, 18, a Goldsmiths student, said he didn’t like Khan much, blaming him for expensive travel around London. Asked what he would like to see Khan do for Londoners, he responded with two words: “Cheaper travel!”
