Borough Market calls for community help to make UK’s largest paper chain

5168453034_8344bbf71b_bLondon’s most popular food destination, Borough Market, has launched a Christmas charity campaign to make the largest paper chain in the UK. The paper chain, that will need to reach over 400 metres to beat the current UK record, will be unveiled at the markets official light switch on November 30.

London Bridge’s Borough Market has asked globally for people to either tweet a Christmas wish using #boroughxmaswishes, or write it personally via a community workshop on  28 November.

In aid of Plan Zheroes (an online charity that notifies local charities of available leftover food) Borough Market aims to provide the homeless with a meal this Christmas-time. These personal wishes will be written on pieces of card, and added to the paper chain throughout the rest of November.

The paper chain will span across the majority of Borough Market, making it the perfect decoration for Borough Market’s Christmas calendar. Hosting a range of festive activities from cooking demonstrations to carol singing,  the market is set to bring festive cheer to London Bridge this Christmas.

Plan Zheroes uses a free app and online website to allow small businesses and establishments, like Borough Market, to notify other smaller charities when there is surplus food available for collection. These notified smaller charities then further distribute the food across London. Established officially in 2011, Plan Zheroes aims to use perfectly good left over and reduce waste food in London whilst helping those who often go hungry. Its popularity has increased in recent years, and Borough Market has encouraged all of those involved in making the paper chain to donate.

Donations to Plan Zheroes can be made here.
