Camberwell Arts Festival 2014

For the past 19 years, Camberwell has hosted the ‘Camberwell Arts Festival’. Celebrating and showcasing the newest and best art in Camberwell, the arts festival is celebrating its 20th year this June, and they need you.

Established in 1994, by a group of locals, the festival aims to “highlight the diversity of the local art scene and engage new audiences in art.” Due to this year being the 20th anniversary of the festival, the theme is going to be ‘a score’, taking inspiration from the number 20 and what that might mean to Camberwell. Due to the nature and size of the festival, the organisers are calling for people to pitch their ideas over email, and if selected you will be able to showcase your work.

Although the theme is rigid, the space in which it will be shown is for you to choose. When applying you can select one of four categories: ‘Fringe Events’ open to all performers of any ilk; ‘Lucky Dip’ in which you will receive a £100 budget along with an outdoor space, be it a street, park or public building to show your work; ‘Artist Studio’ open to those who own a space available to showcase art and are willing to allow its use or ‘Festival event’ available to all those already putting on an event in Camberwell who wish for it to be published in the listings.

Previous years saw over 110 artist-taking part, with well-known names such as: Anna Jackson, Paul Ashurst and Sally Cutler taking part. With Sally saying: “the festival is really great for new and upcoming artists, it allows artists previously not  given the platform to showcase their art the opportunity to do so”

This year taking place between the 14-22 of June, for further information on the festival or how to pitch an idea, go to www.camberwellarts.org.uk.
