Dulwich concerned about rising bike theft

A Woman witnesses two men attempt to steal her partner’s motorbike in Blanchedowne, Denmark Hill Estate.

Camille Andrews was left utterly shocked after watching the two grown men on mopeds dressed in all black try and steal her partner’s motorbike outside her own home at around 10pm October 11th, 2021.

Andrews had spotted the two men through her window that day. They finally decided to leave after Andrews had shouted at them. Upon leaving they had given her verbal abuse.

Shortly after, they decided to come back, riding their mopeds on the pavement and as closely to Andrews partners motorbike as possible. The men were trying to observe how the motorbike which was chained to a post and covered had been locked up, then proceeded to say they will come back and get the bike eventually.

Andrews had acquired the registration plate of these two men however later discovered they were fake plates.

She is now looking into contacting The Anti Social Behaviour Team to report the matter. They are a team that deals with all noise and antisocial behaviour complaints, as well as other nuisances such as smells, dust, fumes and light.

Statistics show that there has been a steady increase of bike theft in Dulwich from January 2021 to September 2021. It was reported that 12 bikes were stolen in January 2021 and a total of 39 had been stolen in September 2021. This is a clear staggering jump shown by most recent statistics causing residents to become more concerned of the increase in bike theft in the Dulwich area.

Andrews urges people in the area to make sure their bikes are locked up, alarmed, covered and as protected as possible.
