Former civil servant reflects in personal art exhibition at London Bridge

Former senior civil servant holds a personal exhibition at London Bridge to ‘prompt a pause to reflect’ after his drastic career change

Daniel Goodwin, 55, former-CEO of St Albans City and District Council, has collaborated with Menier Gallery and Paintings Hospitals to host a week-long exhibition at the Menier Gallery, showcasing an exhibition called ‘Two: New Directions’, his first collection of paintings since resigning his governmental position and embarking the life of an artist.

The exhibition is being held at 51 Southwark St until the 17th of November and is a collaboration with Colin Pink, the author of Acrobats of Sound, whose work contributed to the ideas portrayed within Goodwin’s paintings.

“The works are not intended to be a direct illustration of the poems. Rather they are a response to the themes and motifs that I found within them,” says Goodwin as a comment on the subject of his exhibition. “Having worked in the public sector, this artwork is an escape for anyone who has a busy life. A way to interrupt and pause for personal reflection.”

Goodwin expanded to explain that the area of London Bridge is a busy one and he related to it personally, therefore to him it meant a lot that the area’s galleries provided a venue suitable for the audience which he felt resonated most with his work. The exhibition is his second ever and he hopes to host more in the future in the south east of London.

“We think it’s a wonderful thought, but moreover, the art work does genuinely explore interesting themes and while a small collection Daniel has established himself as a serious artist quite quickly!” says the curator working at Paintings Gallery.

Goodwin said he is now looking to collaborate on more similar ideas to bring attention to the busy business centre of London Bridge.
