Help London’s most vulnerable population to wrap up this Winter

November 7 saw the Wrap Up London campaign return to London Bridge station for its sixth year. As part of an annual initiative, the charity encourages people to donate old coats across three days for distribution to the most vulnerable this winter.

With a freezing winter in sight, it’s both the homeless and the elderly who are most affected. Often left helpless, Wrap Up For London is a charity-lead campaign that collects coats at different tube and railway stations across London and disperses them via homeless shelters, refugee centres in order to reach those in need. London Bridge is one of eight stations across London to have taken part in the charity campaign.

Homelessness in London and across the London Bridge area is a common problem. There is an increasing number of people sleeping rough as a result of poverty and the current harsh economic climate. Wrap Up For London aims to decrease the negative impact on London’s high-risk community. The Southwark Borough had 372 reported cases of homeless citizens this year, and is aware that many other cases go unreported.

Britain’s homeless population has doubled in the past five years, increasing every year. Therefore, campaigns like Wrap Up For Winter are becoming more valuable for a segment of the population’s well being.
