A missing cat has been found safe in Camberwell after a huge social media campaign was launched.

Social media savvy Ramos, utilised the hash symbol- a popular sharing tool used in tweets- with the message #FindOphie.

To date, the post has been ‘re-tweeted’ 387 times, generating enough awareness to actually find Ophie nearly two miles from her home.

Her owner also shared several snaps of the cat to further help with identification and then to show her supporters that she had been found.

Twitter user Jane Common spotted a “rather chubby orange and black splodgy cat” in her garden in Camberwell, and took to the site to see if anyone was missing the “disoriented” cat.

An eagle-eyed user operating an account of behalf of Camberwell’s Stormbird pub noticed the tweet and managed to connect the two ladies.

Replying to a tweet by animal welfare organisation, PAWS Pet Foundation, Ms Ramos credited social media for helping to find her pet, tweeting,

“…we found her with leads from @twitter and the support from our surrounding community x”.

She replied to many of her well wishers, thanking them for their help, and stating she was “over the moon with happiness” and felt “grateful and blessed” to have found her furry friend.

She playfully added that “mission #FindOphie is now complete!”.

As well as using social media to track down her lost pet, Ms Ramos also made #FindOphie posters which were distributed around her local area of East Dulwich.
