Chocolatey beer on sale to support Borough Market traders

A new beer that tastes of chocolate and coffee is being sold in Borough Market to support the traders who lost business in the wake of the London Bridge attack.

The Love Borough Imperial Porter is made using waste coffee grounds and local chocolate, with profits from the sales helping the traders who lost money during the market’s closure earlier this year.

The limited edition beer is now on sale in Borough Market and on draught in local pubs. Each bottle costs £3.90, with £2 of that going to the market’s Trader Support Fund, which helps give some extra income to the traders who lost out on business during the markets closure following the terrorist attacks earlier this year.

It took 6 months of planning, Tap East’s brewery expertise, chocolate from Rabot 1745, fresh coffee beans from the Old Spike roastery and waste coffee provided by Change Please to make this unique beer. Even the hops are grown in the market itself, making this a truly local drink.

Darren Henaghan, managing director of Borough Market, said: “We’re proud to produce a sustainable and low-waste beer which is grown from hops planted right here in our Market Hall.”

“Our urban gardening team used leftover coffee grounds as a mulch and rainwater to grow the English hops, and by using high-quality ingredients from our traders to flavour the porter, the result is a proper London brew.”

The Love Borough Imperial Porter won’t be on sale for long, so head over to Borough Market soon if you plan on tasting this limited edition beer.
