The revolutionary communist group from South London has launched a battle to solve the housing crisis in south London. The NGO group who meet every Tuesday in Peckham where they discuss issues and organise events like speak outs in Lewisham ,Deptford and so on, and are urging Peckham locals to get politically involved and sign the petition to stop the housing crisis and donate. Their south London branch is for fighting racism and fighting imperialism. Currently, their focus is the housing crisis. Apart from that their focus points lies on activism like free Palestine or racism.

Outside Peckham station is where I managed to converse with Destinie Sanchez to know really what’s going on with south London and how many issues there are. Destinie Sanchez, a group member, said “we have a petition demanding decent homes for all and saying not to infields and demanding that empty homes to be opened up”. Last night they held a public meeting regarding the housing crisis discussing how within this housing crisis, she also mentioned that “housing has been seen as commodified is no longer seen as a basic human right.” Thus the group fighting for the housing crisis as the essential human right need is now seen as a way to make money for the government.

“In Southwark, there are over 20,000 people on the waiting list for a home and the council proposed that there will be 11,000 housed by 2043. The revolutionary communist group is here getting signatures in Peckham to demand that the council give out decent homes for everyone as it’s a human right.”

Their other issue is that the labour council are seen to represent the working class but now let zero social housing for people who need it desperately and rather give it to big companies or people who don’t need it as much.

This group’s main demands are, “provide decent housing for all and will stand by anyone resisting here “

All in all this group hold weekly meetings on a Tuesday in south London and Sanchez states that “it is so important to be politically active and involved as it’s easy to take the wrong with society and we need to be active as the government, council and elective have shown they’re not willing to make the changes necessary to improve the quality of life”

22nd January, protests will be held for the housing crisis in south London, Peckham is open to all to go and protest for human rights for housing. For more information on the group and see what you can do visit: https://www.revolutionarycommunist.org/
