Clapham Junction faced huge delays after a woman in her 60s was hit by a train at Earlsfield Station                           in Wandsworth at around 9am on 19th of February.

All emergency vehicles arrived at Earlsfield while the woman was taken to hospital after she                                                                      sustained a head injury. The ordeal was not treated as suspicious.

The early morning accident caused all train lines from Waterloo to Surbiton station to be out of use                          until 4pm the same day.  Meanwhile tickets were being accepted on rail replacement buses.

Donald, a teacher from Ark Oval Academy in Croydon said:
“I’m used to this sort of thing happening. Seeing as Clapham is such a busy station, delays are to be                          expected, so I’m not really surprised.”

The use of rail replacement transport did little to stifle the congestion as people tried to continue                                                              their journeys. A passenger who travelled to work by bus said: “Even travelling by bus to work was                              difficult  as just about everyone had the same idea.”

While the lines reopened, it could not prevent the knock-on delays further effecting passengers as
staff attempted to get services back to normal.

Clapham Junction is the UK’s busiest train station with over 2000 trains passing through every day.
