A Christmas Carol returns to kick start festivities at the Greenwich Theatre for the fifth year, promising an authentic production by actor John O’Connor.

On the 12th of December, the European Arts Company began their festive tour with a production at Greenwich Theatre, reviving Charles Dicken’s famous performance of A Christmas Carol.

This immersive adaptation of the Christmas ghost story is brought to the stage by actor John O’Connor, starring as the great 19th Century author himself, as the heart-warming tale of redemption and love succeeds.

The one-man performance is characterised by its historical roots in Greenwich, where Dickens famously first performed his much loved story on Royal Hill in 1866.

John O’Connor said to Theatre Weekly, ‘It’s wonderful to be returning to Greenwich Theatre for a fifth consecutive year. Greenwich audiences have always been incredibly appreciative and helped make this show a festive tradition.’

‘The performance was magnetic, we felt every emotion he brought to the stage’, an audience member said. ‘The ability to bring each character to life is an incredible talent!’

After his first public reading of A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens had said, ‘The success was most wonderful and prodigious – perfectly overwhelming and astounding altogether!’ This triumph was reflected in the applause for O’Connor’s performance, achieving the difficult yet captivating delivery of a one man show.

The show is dedicated to the memory of its Director Peter Craze who passed in 2020. He was also a much-loved Greenwich resident for 50 years and his work lives on in the theatre’s annual production of A Christmas Carol.
