A 19 year-old Muslim convert from Camberwell was arrested in August last year when he was found with a 12 inch knife, a large hammer and an Islamic flag in his rucksack.

On 19th of February, Brusthom Ziamani, was found guilty of preparing acts of terrorism. A jury of seven women and four men convicted him after hearing that he planned to behead a soldier and pose for a photograph with the severed head. He now faces life in jail.

The Old Bailey heard that Ziamani had been obsessed with Youtube videos about death and turned to street crime before joining supporters of the radical cleric Anjem Choudary. An Islamic group provided Brusthom with money, shelter and clothes after he was kicked out from his home in Camberwell. Ziamani, born to Congolese parents, became interested in Islam just few months before his arrest.

He was first arrested in June last year for writing a letter about his plan to atttack a British soldier. He expressed a strong desire to die a martyr.

The letter said: “ We should do a 9/11, 7/7 and a Woolwich all in one day”.

After he was arrested, he admitted to writing the letter, which caused suspicion that he was going to commit an offence under section 5 of the Terrorism Act.
