Famous Camberwell jazz club to reopen after facelift

Jazz

A popular Camberwell jazz club is undergoing a facelift and will re-open in the next few months.

The Crypt has been promoting jazz at this venue since 1995, and is home to some famous jazz groups such as Jazz Umbrella and Jazz Live.

The Crypt will be opening around the same time as the Camberwell Jazz Festival is supposed to take place, which is predicted to be around September of this year.

In 2009, with help from Awards for All, the Crypt was given enough money for the creation of jazz online, a virtual reality site where people could enjoy the shows online.

This was created by a company called Second Life, leading 3D virtual company. Avatars representing jazz fans from across the country logged onto their concerts to watch some of the finest UK jazz bands perform.

Before closing for renovation the Crypt presented a short season of jazz concerts celebrating the wealth of talent in the UK jazz scene and many have tweeted their excitement over the re-opening of the club to @Camberwellblog.
