Greenwich Theatre to host a ‘relaxed’ Robin Hood show for people with anxiety and other conditions

The ‘relaxed’ performance will be at 7pm on January 5

A “relaxed” performance of Robin Hood will be hosted at Greenwich Theatre on Thursday January 5, 2023 to make it suitable for people with a range of mental and physical disorders.

The showing of Robin Hood in one of London’s foremost Off-West End Theatres located in Crooms Hill, Greenwich will start at 7pm.

This is the second “relaxed” performance of a show being hosted by Greenwich Theatre, with the first being a showing of Treasure Island back in August 2022.

Greenwich Theatre has announced in a Facebook post that there will be no changes to the actual performance of Robin Hood, so this can be enjoyed as the cult classic we all recognise.

However, adjustments have been made for the audience to make the screening more comfortable for those who may have anxiety, Tourette’s syndrome, autism spectrum conditions, learning disabilities, and other sensory and communication needs, as well as physical disorders such as bladder and bowel conditions, who may struggle to sit still through a show.

Some adaptions to the theatre include having an open-door policy during the show, a ‘break-out’ space, adjustments to sound and light levels as well as banning flashing merchandise.

The relaxed atmosphere will also have no restrictions on movement and sound levels in the audience and the theatre advises there may be people coming in and out of the theatre throughout the show.

The adaptations made by Greenwich Theatre allow for accessibility in arts and ‘encourage everyone to attend’.

Members in the local Greenwich community on Facebook have commented saying “what a brilliant idea” this is to create a more inclusive and comfortable space for all.
