A “heroic” night porter was brutally attacked and tortured in a robbery last night at the Jury’s Hotel in Lewisham.

The criminals left with just £15 after subjecting Frank Stuart, 51, to 30 minutes of torture in attempts to locate the hotel’s safe keys.

Detective Inspector James Dalloway said: “The attack occurred yesterday morning at 0330am. His hands and feet were tied, he was hit with a hammer and cut with a knife.”

Stuart’s wife Maureen, 53, said: “Frank was terrified, the worse they got the more determined he was to not let them get away with it, he is very brave. It’s such a vicious crime, how can people be so cruel?”

Jeremy Bates Hotel Manager said: “We think Frank is a hero. He knew where the key to the safe was. The hotel owners are offering £500 to anyone who can provide information that leads to the robber’s arrest.”

The Police described the two suspects as being white with local accents. One male is 5”11, early 20’s, stocky build with dark short hair and the other is 5”4, 30 years old, thin build with long brown hair. Wearing a sweatshirt, jeans, trainers and a knife sheathed to his belt.
