A new branch of Joy store has opened in Clapham Common after its success in Clapham Junction. The shop, which sells everything from home decor to clothes and jewellery, is located near other competitors focusing on the same target market.
“It is an interesting story, because we already have another store around Clapham Junction and it has worked very well,” said Aaron Smith, supervisor of the shop.
“Our only aim was to survive as a business and we did not expect to gain much profit from it in Clapham Junction. However, seeing its success, we decided that it was time to look for long-term objectives, and that is what we did by opening a new branch in here,” explained Smith enthusiastically.
“We are very happy with our new location,” he added. “We have been lucky to be able to open right in front of the Clapham Common tube station, because we are straight away what people see when they get out of the underground.”
Although Clapham is highly competitive in the sector that Joy works in, the supervisor is confident that this is what will bring new customers as a new shop in the area will “make people feel curious enough to come in”.
“In this first month I will be here everyday to get the guys [the other workers] rolling,” said Smith.
The staff plans to do advertising around Clapham High Street to increase awareness. Apparently, this was effective strategy in the Clapham Junction branch, so they hope it has the same affect in this different location.
The new shop opened in the rainy evening of the 16th of November. The event was celebrated with champagne. The workers of Joy came along with friends and family, and even owners of other competitor shops attended to the opening.
For now, Clapham Common’s Joy only operates with two workers and a supervisor.
The venture plans on expanding around other places in London, although they are now focusing on the new location.
