Police appeal to capture Brixton sex attacker

CCTV image on the suspect on the N35 bus

Police haver revealed CCTV images of a man who sexually assaulted a woman in Brixton. The suspect attacker stalked the woman on her way home after they both left the N35 bus at the same stop, just after 04:00 on Sunday August 18.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Alison Downing, from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command, said: “The victim was walking towards her home in the early hours when she was suddenly accosted by this man who had deliberately targeted her after spotting her on the bus they were both on.”

The assault occurred on Station Avenue when the man, who was previously at a distance, appeared behind her and forced her against the wall, claiming that he had no money and nowhere to live before he sexually assaulted her.

The attacker then fled the scene, leaving the woman “traumatised”.

The woman told officers that when she saw his face, she immediately recognised him as being the same man she had seen at the bus stop at Elephant and Castle a short time earlier.

He told her she was ‘beautiful’ and then attempted to engage her in conversation once they were on the bus, making her feel uncomfortable.
Crimes like this are becoming all too common, with 533 cases of violence and sexual offences reported between October 2017 and September 2018 in the Brixton Hill area.

Police also reported that there were 29 cases of violence and sexual crimes per 1000 people residing in the Lambeth area, accounting for nearly 3% of the population.

Police are seeking “any witnesses who know who he is or saw him on the N35 bus that night as it travelled through south London.”

“If you have any information you think could help our investigation please contact us as soon as possible – all calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”
