Six men have been arrested in connection with drugs offences following a raid in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton on Tuesday March 10.
The raid – which started at 3.30pm – was a result of an intelligence-led operation by the Metropolitan Police’s Trident Central Gangs Unit (TCGU), which targets drugs and gangs on the street.
Crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis were seized during the raids, along with £7,000 cash.
The raid was centred around the London Valeting Centre, a carwash on Coldharbour Lane. A section of the street was closed off.
The operation also targeted a number of premises which were frequented by gang members when supplying drugs. Photographs taken by residents show police entering several shops on the strip opposite the car wash.
Alice Waters, an employee of handmade gift shop the Turpentine on the street, said: “It’s the first time I’ve seen something like this here – normally we don’t get any trouble.”
Two men, aged 51 and 31 arrested on suspicion of money laundering, have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Two men, aged 42 and 36 arrested for conspiracy to supply drugs and possession of Class A with intent to supply, have been bailed pending further enquiries.
One man, aged 39 arrested for Immigration offences, has been passed to the UK Border Agency.
One man, aged 40 arrested for possession of cannabis, has been charged with the offence and bailed to appear at Court.
Detective Sergeant Stuart McNaughton from the TCGU said: “Drug dealing and the violence that comes with it harms communities.”
“Taking drug dealers and drugs off our streets remains a priority for us.”
