Police have offered a £20,000 reward for the information about the murder of a man who was stabbed to death in Camberwell two years ago.

Mohamed Kakay,33, was stabbed repeatedly in the chest next to St Giles Church in Camberwell, two years ago.

Police say that he stumbled along a path next to the churchyard before he collapsed on the pavement outside.

Passers-by try to help Kakay until emergency services arrived, but he was pronounced dead at King’s college hospital that same afternoon due to deep wounds in his heart and liver.

Police believed he was attacked by two unnamed suspects.

Mohamed Kakay’s brother, Joe Thomas, told the Standard: ““The government need to take knife crime seriously because innocent people are getting killed, it just needs to stop.”

Police officers returned to St Giles Church on November 17 to hand out appeal leaflets and to talk to local residents in case something comes up than can help the investigation.

Detective Inspector Tom Dahri, leading the investigation, said:“We hope that by offering a substantial reward for information, anyone who knows something about what happened to Mohamed and those involved in his murder who previously thought twice about coming forward will do the right thing now and call police.”

Figures from London’s Metropolitan Police showed that knife crime has escalated by 16 per cent in the capital in 2018. It also showed that Camberwell has the third highest stabbing rate in London.
