A foodbank in Peckham says it has seen a nearly 20% increase in people
needing help as the cost of living crisis hits London and the UK.

Chris Price, CEO of Pecan, told South London Lines, there is a definite rise
in people who need help from foodbanks. This goes against the overall goal of Pecan’s
foodbank, which is to achieve a country that has no need for foodbanks.

Asked how Pecan might get to its ultimate goal, Price said “unfortunately,
at the moment, slowly”.

Pecan foodbank, which is associated with the Trussell Trust, believes that
foodbanks aren’t the permanent answer, just a temporary solution.

But Price said that a lot of people are now falling into the category of those
who need help from foodbanks because income levels cannot keep up with soaring
prices.

Pecan foodbank has been hit by a slight drop in donations this year due to
the cost of living crisis, Price added.

But it is still operating programmes such  as the Peckham Pantry, which provides members with
£20 meals for just £ 4.50.
