Shard to host UK’s highest cinema

London’s highest structure is to become the world’s highest cinema when a screening of Casablanca shows on Wednesday 22nd November.

The up-market event hosted by The Extraordinary Travelling Film Show will see The Shard’s outdoor terrace transformed into a boutique outdoor cinema 69 storeys above London, and at 308.5m high, the organisers promise it to be both the highest and coolest cinema in the UK, greatly surpassing the current record of 62 meters, held by Cineworld in Glasgow.

Tickets for the exclusive event start at £45, but the organisers are promising a unique cinema experience, a complimentary Grey Goose cocktail along with “free popcorn.”

The event is the first of a series being held by The Extraordinary Travelling Film Show and The View From The Shard, which will see the tower-topping terrace transformed into a unique experience for avid movie buffs, with weekly film screenings showing some of the all-time cinema greats.

The first film Casablanca will screen on Wednesday 22nd November, with the Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street opening on the 12th December.

Here’s looking at you, person willing to spend £45 on a ticket.

“The night begins with 360-degree views of London and a complimentary cocktail made with Grey Goose Vodka, who, we’re excited to say, are our sponsors,” say the organisers, who also hold other events across London.

“There’s also free popcorn because, hey, it’s a movie. Then you’ll settle down to see a great film on the big screen with the lights of London twinkling beneath you.”

Potentially one of the priciest cinema seats in London, the £45 asking price is almost twice as much as the renowned Lounge in Bayswater, and a whopping nine times more expensive than what is considered London’s cheapest cinema, Peckhamplex, where all tickets are £4.99, meaning you could watch Daddy’s Home 2Bad Mom’s Christmas and My Little Pony: The Movie each three times for the same price as Casablanca up The Shard.
