On the morning of 18th November, commuters travelling through London Bridge were left agitated due to severe train delays caused by an electricity supply problem in the city. There was a disruption in train services between London Bridge, East Croydon and West Croydon, leading to cancellations on trains running from Purley to Tattneham Corner, and Crystal Palace to London Bridge.

Affecting rush-hour travellers, Darcy Wilson, 23, almost missed her interview. “I was really irritated that this happened. I left early knowing it was rush hour but was left waiting at the station for over forty five minutes! When has the southern service to London Bridge ever taken this long to arrive? It didn’t help that it was pouring cats and dogs on the day. Almost cost me my newly landed job!”

“I reached my lecture a good fifty minutes late. Waited for about thirty minutes at the station and finally caught the train, but that journey was one from hell for me! Our train didn’t move for fifteen minutes after. They should’ve gotten us rail replacement buses instead,” says Arohi, 19, a student at Goldsmiths, University of London.

When contacted, TFL informed us that Network Rail notified them of the problem at 5:40 am, and by then, the train service had already been hit. “We tried our best to run the service as smoothly as possible but it took a couple of hours for the problem to fixed.” On asked if there will be any reimbursements made, TFL was quick to say, “While we apologized for the mishap, there will be no reimbursements.”
