Where is the rubbish? The garbage outside the trash can cause the worries of Clapham community.

Recently, there has been rubbish outside the trashcans in the street and has led the people in the Clapham area to have serious worries.

On the 9th o March, it was raining hard in the afternoon. Everything seems normal except the odour from the rubbish. There are several trashcans lining the street and the rubbish that should be in it is now all around it on the ground. The less-than-beautiful trash produced the nasty smell.

How does this situation cause the community to worry? Here are the feelings of some local people:

“I can’t stand it! I just avoid not to seeing it through my way. Nobody is taken the responsibility! All the care is the due with their own rubbish.” Said by a lady on the street, who wishes to remain nameless.

“Well, I don’t know. Sometimes I won’t pay much attention on it. But I would says those things make me annoyed when you ask me.”  Annie added, a 22-year old university student.

“It’s terrible! Can they just put it in to the trashcan? Is it that difficult? Every time I was waiting the bus I can smell it, smelled like sewage!” Said by Tom Joseph, a 15 year-old boy, who goes to school everyday by bus.WeChat_1457689682                                The picture taken in the street around Clapham junction

The piles of garbage impact both the lives of the community and the environment. When it comes to some of the shopkeeper who leave the rubbish on the ground like that, they seems have their own reasons.

“I know, I know! It is not good to putting the rubbish outside, but the holes of the bins are too small! I can’t put mine in through those tiny little holes.” Explained by the traders of a fish and chip shop.

“It was already full. I have no choice.” Said by Sam Gowns, who is also a shopkeeper.

The habit of not putting the rubbish in the right place has become a recurring issue in the area. Through the situation, we may need to reconsider who should take the responsibility for the rubbish in the street.
