Tickets for Jake Bugg’s debut performance at the Electric Brixton venue sold out 45 minutes after going on sale earlier this week. The singer-songwriter is due to take to the South London stage on Thursday March 10, following the release of his latest single, ‘Gimme the Love’.
It’ll be Bugg’s first performance in Brixton since his 2013 O2 Academy appearance, a show that led to critics acclaiming the artist as “a master of both his guitar and his wonderfully idiosyncratic voice.” As well as stating that “Bugg is a man of few words, but with a talent and wisdom far beyond his years.”
The two time Brit-nominee is preparing to embark on a nationwide summer tour, and the Brixton venue is one of four London locations welcoming the Nottingham artist before he jets off to the US. The 22-year-old will play four intimate shows in Brixton, Tufnell Park, Shoreditch and Shephard’s Bush. Each show will feature support from fellow Notts-born singer-songwriter ‘Georgie’ and Stockport rockers ‘Blossoms’ as Bugg prepares to launch his eagerly awaited third album ‘On My One’ on June 17.

The latest project follows the self-titled album ‘Jake Bugg’ and ‘Shangri La’ which earned the singer a Brit Award for Best Newcomer and the coveted Mercury Prize for each album respectively. Rumours claim ‘On My One’ was recorded at the legendary SARM studios, where Led Zeppelin recorded their famous seminal fourth album, whereas, others believe that Bugg has been working in LA with music superpower Rick Rubin. Yet, some fans believe that the Notts man is working hard in his home town, with Bush Hall Music claiming he’s; ‘putting down all the ingredients for a self-produced classic comeback.’
The Brixton show promises to be a fascinating one. Will the singer see the intimate gigs as a chance to test the water with some of his new material? What if the rumours regarding Rick Rubin’s influence into the third album are true? Will the producer who has worked closely with heavy rockers Metallica and Black Sabbath lead to a more hard-rock approach that we haven’t seen in Bugg’s previous albums? All we know for sure is that March 10 will give audiences a taste of things to come, in what is shaping up to be a huge summer for the singer.
