Agile Rabbit – The new pizzeria on the block

You won’t see the sleek, commerciality of a Pizza Express anywhere near Brixton Village. Instead, what you will find, is an independent pizza restaurant called Agile Rabbit.

Agile Rabbit is a one-room restaurant in the Village which serves up a variety of traditional Italian pizzas, with freshly made dough, homemade recipes and local ingredients. The small space is split almost in half between the open kitchen and the seating area. The open kitchen allows the smell and warmth of the cooking pizzas and calzones to float into the restaurant, while letting the world and the waiting customers peer into the cramped space to watch the food being prepared.

The relatively sparse, minimalistic theme to the restaurant reflects the easiness and simplicity of the food. The menu is fairly short, they stick to what they know. Pizzas are a generous size and relatively cheap, ranging from £2 a slice, £4 for a calzone, and £9-12 for a pizza with various toppings, and are delivered to the table in simple black trays.

Customers sit on a mix-match of wooden benches, arranged in a specific way that creates an extremely sociable atmosphere. Seats spill into the pathway through the market area, giving the whole place a relaxed feeling, despite the hustle and bustle in the path.

Simplicity seems to be the biggest theme with Agile Rabbit. The staff are pleasant, but very minimal. Customers show themselves to a seat, help themselves to the menus scattered around and after a short wait have their orders taken. The food is brought out promptly, and the interaction with staff is kept minimal. Paying is a casual affair, a receipt is placed on the table and money is left. As an added bonus, there are various different blankets heaped up for those customers who feel the chill.

As an independent business goes, Agile Rabbit is increasingly becoming one of the most popular pizza restaurants in Brixton, almost definitely the favourite in Brixton Village. It regularly holds music nights and is often frequented throughout the day and long into the evening, full of young locals as well as visitors all enjoying their food, drinks and the relaxing vibe of the restaurant.
