Armed robbers viciously attacked and tortured a “heroic” hotel night porter last night in Lewisham, fleeing the scene with £15.

Frank Stuart, 51, was working as the night porter for the Jury’s Hotel when the two men broken in through a rear window at 3:30am.

Only managing to steal £15 from a set of fruit machines, the two men carried Stuart down to the basement, were they began attacking him with a hammer and cutting his face with a knife.

Wife of the victim, Maureen Stuart, 53, said: “It was such a vicious attack and they got away with nothing.”

The two men, had been torturing Stuart to obtain the location of the hotel’s safe keys, of which the “brave” employee refused to disclose.

Hotel manager Jeremy Bates said: “He knew were the keys were. We think Frank is a hero and the hotel are offering a £500 reward for the capture of these men.”

Police had said both men where white with “local accents.” One 5’11’’ with a stocky build, around 20 years old, with short dark hair, and the second is reportedly aged 30, 5’4”, thin with long brown hair. Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward..

Stuart is currently being held in Wittington Hospital were he has received 35 stitches
