An educational centre in West Dulwich will host their final session of the year supporting new mothers and their babies, this Tuesday, as part of a wider series of physical and mental health talks.

Mothers and Babies’ Friendship Group, a free to attend support group for new mothers, will host the session at Bell House this Tuesday, making it the tenth free session hosted this term.

The group aims to provide a space where new parents can come, along with their babies, to take a break from the house, and connect with a network of other new parents in similar situations to themselves. The group provides a space where parents can meet and discuss, that is accommodating of babies’ needs and demands.

The sessions are ran by Sonia Hancock, a relationship counsellor and Wendy French, a therapist and leader for cancer patient support groups. Both women are grandparents to eight grandchildren.

The sessions, which have run weekly since 21st September, are part of Bell House’s series of Bell Health events, whereby regular speakers discuss topics related to physical and mental wellbeing. The speakers are health experts and opportunities for panel discussion and Q&A are provided.

So far the events have seen a wide array of topics covered including cervical cancer, first periods, menopause, breast cancer awareness, testicular cancer awareness, OCD, bereavement, mental wellbeing and vaccination concerns of new parents.

As well as in person speakers, Bell Health provide webinars and Bell Health Films – a series of short education films aimed providing accessible health advice on topics ranging from Endometriosis to Lyme disease. The organisation will be running a Christmas donation campaign to raise money to fund further film production from 30 November to 7 December.

Other upcoming events include a session on grief and bereavement on 29 November and a session on lifestyle choices to support menopause on 12 January next year.
