Borough Market release bespoke Earl Grey craft beer

Craft beer lovers can find a limited edition beer flavoured with Earl Grey at Borough Market this winter.

Every year for the past four years, the market has produced a beer from the crops that were planted in the Market Hall five years ago, the ‘Earl grey Saison’ is the third beer to be brewed from the crops that grow over the year within the market, which are fertilised using recycled coffee grounds from traders and rainwater from the market’s roof; as well as Earl Grey tea from market trader, Organic Life.

Darren Henaghan, managing director of Borough Market told fabnews live: “Borough Market is the curator of a diverse range of the best quality national and international produce – a place to discover the unique and rediscover the familiar. What better way to celebrate our position at the heart of London than with a seasonal beer grown with our own hops, flavored with one of our expert trader’s tea and fertilized with left over coffee grounds! In effect, it’s essence of Borough Market in a glass. We hope our customers will enjoy raising a toast!”

The flavour of the beer is a special blend sourced from Sri Lanka by Organic Life which is infused with lemon and lime to give the beer a unique citrus taste. The beer is also ‘cold brewed’ with over 5kg of loose leaf Earl Grey tea.

Only 6,000 bottles of the 5.2% beer have been produced that are available in Borough Market or through independent alcohol retailers through distribution of Partizan Brewing, a microbrewery located in Bermondsey. Priced at £3.30. The beer can also be found on draft in the market or at The Globe Tavern.
