Large haystacks, post war landscape and  intriguing folk costumes can all be found  in a new exhibition opened last  Thursday in Camberwell’s GXgallery.

The exhibition, titled ‘Folk Art, Sex  Fantasy, Kosova Myths, London Diaries’ contains 31 black and white pictures taken by Lala Meredith-Vula in the last 30 years period in several different locations, including the author’s native Albania.

An observer in the gallery praised the work, saying: ‘The diversity of the photographs creates a mysterious journey for the viewer. It is a trip to another dimension looking from the perspective of London. That really makes it interesting.’

The artist, Meredith-Vula, explains in the gallery programme that: ‘In this exhibition I wish to show my contradictions in work made over the past three decades. I want to unify all the elements of myself in my artwork. It is like a jigsaw puzzle for the viewer to piece together.’

Gallery assistant, Norma Symmott, said: ‘The opening of the exhibition attracted a lot of viewers and art collectors. It was actually more than usual, maybe it is because of the fact that author is quite renowned in the artistic World.’

‘Many people who visit our gallery say that they want to buy the piece. You can’t buy this type of piece in a big, well-known institution.’

The average cost of a piece in the GXgallery is £2000 but Symmott says that does not discourage people from buying it.

Mrs Symmott believes that the diversity of art is what makes the GXgallery unique: ‘We have something for everyone passionate about art: photographs, paintings, sculptures by many different artists like Ed Grey or Carlos Cortes.’

“Folk Art, Sex Fantasy, Kosova Myths, London Diares” will be exhibited for free at the GXgallery until 21 March.
