Christmas comes to London Bridge

dsc_0295The Christmas Market at London Bridge is back for its third year, running along the south bank of the River Thames. Stretching all the way from Tower Bridge to Hays Galleria, more than 40 German chalet inspired cabins sell festive items to suit everyone. Christmas by the River offers everything from mulled wine, food, art and clothing.

With Christmas trees, lights and a picturesque background of Tower Bridge, Christmas by the River is festive experience in the winter season which attracts people from all over the world to London.

Employee at the Snowdonia Cheese stall Ellie Brooks, 31, said: “I love this market, so many different people come here. Locals and tourists, some people come after work, families, it’s just so diverse and that’s what makes it fun.”

dsc_0315The market opened on November 30 and will be held daily until January 3 2017. On the opening night, student choirs from Snowfields and Tower Bridge Primary School were accompanied by local volunteers as they walked through the streets of London Bridge, singing carols before the lights were switched on.

This year the Christmas market is supporting six charities, raising money for the poor and homeless, those who are left with little during the winter days.

London Bridge has proven to be engaging towards supporting those in need since early November, hosting the London Bridge Community Christmas. Team London Bridge, an organisation which aims to develop the area, have been taking in donations since November 1. Local people and businesses were asked to donate Christmas presents which Team London Bridge will distribute to children, families and people in need. Stone Ends Day Centre and South London Cares are two of the charities to which the donations will go. On December 7, everyone is welcome to volunteer as a gift-wrapper to give the donations a festive look before they are sent off.dsc_0313
