South London will be lighting up for Christmas in a series of events that will be taking place next week! Starting on Thursday November 28 in Battersea, the Northcote Road Christmas lights will be switched on at 4pm by ITV’s weather girl Lucy Verasamy. Visitors will be able to see Santa’s Grotto and various other fun activities for children, such as fun fair rides and street entertainers.

This won’t be the only Christmas event Battersea will be hosting in the upcoming weeks; on December 3 the Christmas tree lights in Battersea Square will be turning on at 6.30pm to the sound of live carol singers.

It will be followed by Putney on Friday, where the market will start buzzing at 3pm with food stalls and other activities for all to enjoy, including rides and plenty of mulled wine. The lights ceremony will commence at 6pm and shops will be open later than usual for a spot of late night shopping. Southfields will also be turning on its Christmas lights on Friday at 5pm in association with the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

On Saturday 30th November it will be an all-day event at Wandsworth town centre, starting at 11am, with the Christmas tree lights outside All Saints Church being turned on at 4:20pm, proceeded by mince pies and tea at the church hall.

These events have been organised by the Wandsworth Council and Clapham Junction Partnership to incite locals to shop in their own neighbourhoods these upcoming holidays. Councillor James Cousins said, “There’s no need to travel up to town when we have such a fantastic range of shops on our doorstep. We would urge everyone to support their local traders, do as much of their Christmas shopping as possible in the borough’s town centres and enjoy the Christmas events on offer.”
