Dulwich Village residents have been warned to be on their guard against fake delivery couriers attempting to claim packages in the Dulwich Village area this week, as fraudulent losses rise by 30 per cent this year.

The Dulwich Village police have released a statement on Twitter warning of a new scam in the area involving high value goods being bought through the victim’s credit before being delivered to their address. Once delivered, a fake courier for DPD will attempt to claim the package.

A local elderly home, Home Instead Dulwich and Croyden, have voiced their concerns and are offering advice to their clients: “We recognise that our clients can be vulnerable to these types of scams, and we encourage all our team to look out for [these] signs to help better protect them”.

Fraud and online scams have made a steady increase during the first half of the year with £753.9 million being stolen as reported by the UK Finance. This is significant in relation to figures from 2019 by Age UK that reveal people over the age of 65 are victims of fraud every 40 seconds.
