Police appeal for new information on anniversary of murder

Police still hunt for Woroniecki’s killer

Detectives are appealing for new information about the murder of Piotr Woroniecki on the first anniversary of his death.

“It has been a year since Piotr’s body was found on the street at Parma Crescent in Clapham, and whilst we are making headway in the investigation, we still want to hear from anyone who saw Piotr in the days before his death, or knows anything about who killed him or their motive for doing so,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell, who is leading the investigation into Piotr’s murder.

A reward of up to £10,000 is being offered to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Woroniecki’s murderer.

Cranwell also said: “A large quantity of Class A drugs and close to £100,000 in cash was found in Piotr’s flat which leads us to believe he may have been involved in some form of criminality and that his death may be linked to an organised crime syndicate; however, this has not yet been proven.”

“I still want to hear from anyone who may have seen Piotr that night or knows anything about why he was killed.”

Woroneicki was found unresponsive at Parma Crescent in Clapham at 5.20am on the November 23 2017, however, was believed to have died many hours before.

“Piotr was last seen alive at 23:32hrs on Wednesday, 22 November 2017, at New Covent Garden Market where he appeared to be in reasonably good spirits,” said Cranwell.

On the night of the murder, two attempted break-ins occurred, according to the Metropolitan Police. The first happened at 23:57hrs on November 22 2017 with two males gaining entry to the communal areas, however it is unknown whether they entered the flat. Then at 3:23hrs on November 23 2017, another attempt was made to enter the communal area but due to the previous break-in the locks had been changed therefore the two males did not gain entry. It is unknown if these are the same two males in both attempted break-ins.

CCTV has been previously released showing the attempted break ins, however it is not clear whether the males gained entry into flat during these two attempts.

Three more attempts were made to break into Woroniecki’s flat on November 24 2017. At 01.48hrs, two men gained entry to the building and access was gained to the flat. At 07.37hrs, the two suspects returned and gained entry to the communal area of the building only. At 23.10hrs to 23.18hrs, the two men returned and once again gained entry to the communal area of the building.

When contacted the Polish Embassy in London said to South London Lines: “[T]he Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London was notified of the death of the mentioned person by the British police on the day of the death. We have stayed in touch with the family of the deceased, as well as with Met Police regarding this case.”
