Route master bus launches in South London

Last year, Mayor of London Boris Johnson, confirmed that the Boris buses will be routing from south London early this year. After awaiting for confirmed dates, the 148 bus will now be running as a Routemaster bus as of this weekend.

Not only this; TFL has also made it clear that when the 148 bus launches, all doors will remain secured during journey; in order words, there will be no use of ‘open platforms’ like the rest of the Route master buses.

Dan Maskell, from Transport of London said that the open platform was more appropriate for Central London as it is the most visited scenery of London, he suggested “The buses are particularly adept at operating in Central London, the focus will always be on Central London routes”

In 2005, Boris Johnson got rid of the original Routemaster bus as part of his motives in his 2008 election strategy to eventually provide a “cleaner, greener and more pleasant city”. He added “when ordered in greater numbers it will make a significant economic contribution to the manufacturing industries; it’s not just a pretty face”.

He continued “the green inwards of this red bus mean that it is twice as fuel efficient as a diesel bus and the most environmental-friendly of its kind.”

Furthermore, it has been predicted that there will be a total of 600 new Boris buses by 2016. Leon Daniels, Transport for London’s Managing Director of Surface Transport, declared: “The new Routemaster buses are becoming an increasingly familiar sight on the capital’s road with the conversion of more routes continuing apace.”

He added “with the introduction of the very latest Euro VI engines, the environmental credentials of the greenest electric hybrid bus in the world are set to get even better”.

As the residents of South London anticipate for their new Route master bus; it is confirmed that the bus is set to travel via the route of Shepard’s Bush, Westminster, Elephant and Castle and Camberwell, this weekend.
