“There’s four minutes left of Happy Hour!” Says the waiter as he hurries past our table. “Half price cocktails!”

You’re spoilt for choice when looking for places to eat in Brixton, especially in the Brixton Village. Senzala draws you in with its energy and uniqueness.

What first started as part of The Brick Box is now an independent restaurant that sells food with “Brazilian flair”. They boast a large and varied menu of imaginatively named sweet and savory crepes as well as an interesting mix of tapas and cocktails. The name comes from the Senzala slave houses for the plantations and farms in Brazil in the 16th to 19th centuries. It was from these houses that the majority of Brazil’s culture developed. The name acts a tribute to the influence that the Senzala’s had on the restaurants’ theme.

The cosy indoor seating allows for good conversation and a great, enclosed atmosphere, whereas the tables outside let you experience the vibes of Brixton Village as a whole. Sat underneath the heating lamps customers can plough through a ‘Tuna Vegas’ or a ‘Godfather’ crepe whilst watching Brixtonians walk by.

The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable, you can have a large crepe and a drink for under £10. Senzala attracts a range of customers and has a high reputation shown through numerous positive ratings online. The waiting staff are friendly and enthusiastic and if you’re sitting in the right place you can watch the chefs prepare your meal.

As well as offering food and drink Senzala also puts on exhibitions. All the art you see on the walls in the restaurant has been produced by up-and-coming artists looking for somewhere to show their work. If you see one you like then you can buy it, all the pieces are for sale.

Creperies are not a common sight in London and this one is a great find that is well worth a visit.
