ULEZ new parameters for October

The efforts to lower the quantity of traffic emission pollution in London have arrived to the north Circular and South Circular roads.

On October 25 of this year, the Mayor of London and Transport For London expanded the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to the respective zones.

“The new zone is 18 times the size of the central London zone and now covers 3.8 million people.” Said the official website of Mayor of London.

This plan consists in establishing a new traffic emissions standard which are eco-friendlier, if any vehicle does not meet said standards the owner will have to pay a fee that varies depending on the type of vehicle.

“Toxic air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to Londoners’ health, and traffic emissions are the biggest source of toxic air in London.” Was one of the Mayor of London’s reasons on why the ULEZ exists.

It was expanded because toxic air pollution still is the biggest environmental risk to the Londoners’ health, around of 4,000 prematurely died in 2019 due to long term expose to air pollution.

“Any money received from the ULEZ will be reinvested into improving the transport network, including cycleways, buses and Tube, and helping to improve London’s air quality.” Said the TfL in regard of the fees’ destination.

The TlF also offers alternative transport options, and encourages them, in its website; from walking to cycling, public transport to taxis, private hire vehicles to car clubs.

They also offer to “Scrap your polluting vehicle”, by applying for a grant to scrap-and-replace your vehicle for a cleaner one, with this you could claim £2000 for scrapping a car or £1000 for a motorcycle or £7000 for scrapping a charity minibus up to and including 5 tones gross vehicle weight (plus £2,500 contribution towards running costs of a replacement electric minibus).
