Brixton Cycles relocated after gentrification eviction

After two previous evictions from past locations Brixton Cycles has beaten the odds and opened up on Brixton Road 296-298.

The new location has a large open shop floor like the old location on Coldharbor lane, which the co-op was forced out of due to the building of luxury flats.  The shop now has an attached coffee shop and a large workshop for bike maintenance.

The attached coffee shop “Look mum no hands” is a small coffee chain that has a permanent location in Shoreditch and smaller pop up locations like the one in Brixton Cycles.  The shop states they want to allow people to “Drink coffee and put some cash in the BC till.”.

When Brixton Cycles spoke to South London Lines they were unsure how permanent this new location would be for them saying: “We’ve signed a long lease but its still a scary future because we are paying quadruple the rent that we were paying before on Stockwell road, so our future is by no means secure.”

The shop stocks almost all bike related products with their website stating they have bikes supplied from; Surly, Specialized, Trek, Genesis, Salsa, Brompton and more.  While also stocking “all the accessories you need to get riding and keep riding: lights, locks, clothing, luggage, trailers, spare parts and the tools you need to fit them.”

More information can be found out about the shop on their website  and twitter page .
