Camberwell Green Care Home

HC-One Limited’s Camberwell Green Care Home is being occupied by squatters just weeks after closing.

The nursing home that closed its doors earlier this year due to financial difficulties has of last week been home to squatters after it emerged that they had breached the home’s main gate and blacked out its windows.

On a recent visit to the home, squatters reclined on patio chairs whilst their dog ran amok. After refusing to disclose their details, the men claimed that they were, ‘living like kings’, in the nursing home which they referred to as a ‘palace.’

This isn’t the first time Camberwell Green Care Home has sparked conversation. In September 2015, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) issued a damning report that deemed the nursing home inadequate. Within the report, inspectors claimed the service lacked, ‘good governance and staffing’,  and had, ‘poor medicines management.’

The home, following financial difficulties quickly shut after the report was published. One local business owner said the closure was, ‘a blessing.’

Squatting in a residential building is now a criminal offence (as of 2012) therefore the fate of the squatters remains unknown as many are unsure as to whether the property qualifies as being a residential building.
